Is Jesus really God's son? Did he really die on a cross and rise three days later? Some have said in the past that he never existed at all, it was merely a story. Today, the world is fairly well convinced he did exist, but still reject his claim of deity, despise his name, and his followers. If you think they don't really hate him, try to attend high school with an I love Jesus shirt on. Say a prayer at commencement exercise, or try to make him a topic in classes at Harvard, you'll see what I mean. The news of ACLU lawsuits, and their "defense" of non-believers rights, is one of dozens of examples of how he is hated, we are hated. Read his story, in Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John.
A simple story, historically true. There is a movement in the world that never stops trying to discredit this story of Jesus. Why? The followers of Christ, that have truly followed Christ, are under endless attack. I don't mean those who organize and proclaim to follow Him. I certainly don't mean those who sell Him today in the media, the pay for pray group, or in times past chose the path of bloodshed to reclaim relics, or territory that Jesus lived in. These things all are meaningless, according to Christ's teachings. The followers I speak of are those who in humilty realize their unworthiness, that they could not save themselves, they see their only hope is in the complete work of Jesus. In acceptance of their low estate and his shed blood, they believe in him. He dwells in them, spurns them ahead to act in his stead in the world, Teresa of Calcutta, Brother Andrew, and Billy Grahams...those who work in silence in the inner cities and garbage dumps of this fallen world, without acclaim, unacknowledged, these are whom I speak of. These don't argue doctrines like; pre, post, or mid tribulation return of Christ. They aren't concerned about whether tongues are for today, does God still heal, you know, those things that have divided Christ into hundreds of sects, all claiming to be right. No, they are so grateful for what Christ has done for them, they give themselves entirely to him. And those who are set on discrediting Christ, don't see these saints...just the "aints" that sell Jesus, not give Jesus.
I have to say for myself, I believe in Him. C.S. Lewis said, in essence, Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or exactly who he said he is. This is true. Jesus said, I AM, the Way, the Truth, the Life...in front of the "religious leaders" he was asked, "are you the son of God?" He said, "you rightly say who I am." The religious then turned him over to the "unreligious," they beat him and crucified Him. A liar? A lunatic? Or the son of God? If he lied, what a price to pay for lying. If he was a lunatic with a death wish, he doesn't matter. If he is the son of God, he is the greatest of matters, your belief or disbelief in Him is of eternal consequence....you decide. Our world has never been the same since this story was related that day those folks came out in boldness and delivered the news of his resurrection, and revealed who He was. Kingdoms have risen, and fallen. Those who tried to destroy his memory, are gone. Those in our day who hate him, are getting their moment in the spotlight, thanks to the enemies of the cross. Again you decide, as for me and my house...we will follow Him. Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all, Keith.
