No matter what your addiction is, You need to ask for help to stay clean and sober. Willpower won't work for the greatest percentage of addictions. There are two people I've known of that willpowered their sobriety and they are miserable most of the time. The first One we look to for help is God. He cares for us no matter what our addiction has done to ourselves and others. As we look to Him for help, He sends us help normally via people that have been where we're at. However, when He sends others to help us, we cannot stop praying, our troubles do mysteriously go away. I have dealt with many newcomers to AA. Most all of those new to sobriety don't know how to pray, or don't want to pray because their atheist/agnostic, or they're mad at Him. But they all want sobriety. So, they pray, He hears, and answers, and life gets better.
Everyone has addictions, most know they do, but some don't. They don't see gossip, worry, lying, anger, TV, cellphones, video games, foul language, etc. as addictions, but they are. That wonderful pastor, TV evangelist, President, legislator, all have something they struggle with, make no bones about it. All of us need to ask God every morning to keep us clean and sober and free of every besetting sin. Throughout the day we should ask Him to keep our thoughts on good things and at night thank Him for helping us. You don't have to speak in ye olde language with thee, thou, and thy, He's not impressed. Talk to Him as a friend. "So what do I say?" you ask. How about "please help me!" Jesus was talking to His disciples and He told them, "men ought always to pray and not loose heart." (read Luke 18, if you don't have a Bible, go to Biblestudytools.com) Paul the Apostle wrote for believers to pray without ceasing. You need help, God wants to help you, so ask. I have so many things to say on this topic, I've seen lives change in ways you can't believe and experienced it personally. But the bottom line is, if you dont ask for help from God, He won't interfere with your doubt. More tomorrow, God bless and keep you all!
