Anyone living in the world today remembers the day terrorists attacked America, in America. We all thought that the attacks were going to happen all over the country, and were relieved when that didn't happen. But the damage was done, the people were enraged, the Islamic nations people danced in the streets. The President called for war on terrorism, the majority of the population said, "go to it," the war was on. Subsequent images in the periodicals, and newspapers of the damage and the people standing in the windows of the towers screaming for help fueled the fires of vengeance and patriotism. American flags were everywhere, on homes, cars, stores, and businesses. Though the memory is vivid to us, the flags began to be put away, the people no longer want war for many reasons, (many good reasons), and the media stopped the sensationalizing of patriotism and focused on the evils of the fight. Still we remember ten years later. Our sorrow has turned to the survivors, rightly so.
Memories of good things in life seem so dim compared to bad things that happen to us. That may be good, we learn and grow into maturity when we suffer, survive, and accept the bad as a lesson learned and amend our ways to avoid that from happening again. But we must remember. For all of us who are recovering from drug and alcohol abuse, (or any addiction), our forgetting our past and the havoc we brought into others lives would be a mistake. All of that misery waits if we return to that life, loss of family, friends, property, jobs and more, will be realized. So we must not forget but make it vivid and reach out to others and help them find this new way of life.
And good news! God will forget. Ask His forgiveness and accept the free gift He offers in Christ. (read Romans 10:9,10- John 3:16,17) Once you understand you are forgiven, you can forgive yourself, and live amends for the past debaucherous way of life. And life will be worth living. Stop living in the problem and live in the solution, life is sweet, the future is secure in
