There we go again, gearing up for the next election and who we shall give the reins of leadership of our beloved nation. We pick a leader we think will guide us into peace and prosperity, giving us and our children a hope and a bright future. Not me. I want to elect a leader that is ready to go to war! I want someone who can say what they mean and mean what they say. To have a leader that leaves the world of politics by not dancing around issues, and speaking with th proverbial "forked tongue," would be novel, wouldn't it.
I'm not a war-monger, I do not want another Iraq or Afghanistan, nor do I want our nation to police the entire globe. I do want a fight, here, at home. This fight is one that requires a man or woman who will give their agenda out in detail, and if elected, goes directly to work on it. This leader is not going to ignore the will of the people. We have leaders now who fight alright, but they fight to keep things as they are and retain what they have...power. Servants? Not these guys. For the most part they are self-serving. There needs to be a 12 step program for politicians that teaches them how to serve the people and be genuine. I think I would like to attend one their recovery meetings. Hello, my name is .....and I am an ego-maniac.
This country wants to please everyone that has an issue that the majority disagrees with. The majority does not mind having the ten commandments on a school lawn. An individual finds it offensive, and they seek their removal. Their claim is they do not believe in religion. The ACLU rushes in with demands of immediate removal or funding from the government will be cut off, citing the separation of church and state. (By the way, that term is not in the Constitution.) The end result is a law suit defending the rights of the individual, a judge that rules that they must be removed from government property because the students may read them and believe them, and they are removed. Does anyone care about the rights of the majority? Side note: could it be the reason for the drop in rank from the top ten in education worldwide, to twenty-seventh? Or maybe the reason for troubled youths entering into addictions in adolescence? I want a fight against this insanity.
"Where there is no revelation the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law." Prov. 29:18
"When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan." Prov. 29:2
The truth is, we don't fight anything out of fear of what people may say and think about us. There is not any real war on drugs as far as I can see. Youths under eighteen, even as young as seven or eight, are hooked so bad they prostitute themselves out to afford their fix. The pedophile community is growing, and becoming fearless, knowing there is judges that will not keep them out of society very long if they are caught and jailed. The drug and alcohol problem helps feed their addiction by supplying drugs to kids, they get what they want. We have no restraint. There are few voices that cry out against these evils. I want war! I want leaders that want to fight!
The media outlets have an agenda that serves both the left and the right, but not the people. They think the people too ignorant to know the truth on any topic, so they give you what they want you to believe, and do it convincingly. They say very little about the decline in education, the rampant drug addictions on nearly every street in our cities, or the evils of pornography that is consuming the minds and destroying families. Why? Because it is more important to talk about Lindsey Lohan, or to give the wacko who kills a dozen people a grandstand of publicity, and make the next shooter determined to do the same and receive the same attention. We don't fight that. In fact, we concur with their reports on nearly every issue because they are the news, that is all they report, they are not biased because they say they are not. Right.
Politicians who are honest walk very softly, and speak even softer, knowing that if they speak the truth they will be crucified politically. Any minister who says these evils are satanic, or judgment from God is vilified and publicly disgraced. Give me a leader to follow, one who wants to fight back. The government is not the answer and cannot make enough programs to "fix" this morally bankrupt society. We need less big government and more of self-government. The current administration really believes that the government can fix the problems by taking more from the rich and distributing it to the poor. Socialism does not work, and never will. Hating the wealthy is normal for the poor, but the wealthy is who writes your paycheck, not the poor. The fight is coming, like it or not, no matter who wins.
We are a divided people. The youth today, as in my day is attracted to the speech, to the glitter of fame, and believe the one who talks the best. Adolf Hitler talked the best in his day. He talked much about goodly morals and principles he believed in, but proved himself a liar to the people, imprisoning Christian leaders, eventually murdering them, along with the Jews, Gypsies, handicapped, and anyone he deemed inferior. Satan himself appears as an angel of light. I am convinced of this, what you say you believe is reflective of how you live. Saying and doing are politicians big dilemma, being, what do I need to say to get elected? And then doing what you planned if elected. We are divided. Multiculturalism can cause us to think differently, that is normal. But it does not change history. When we see a politician or leader going a certain direction, and know historically that the direction will be bad for the people, that person should look for another career. We must fight, and win.
There will soon be another election that this divided nation must decide on whom will lead us the next four years...God be merciful! I am concerned that the wrong choice will be the death blow to the country, already rapt in turmoil. Our children and theirs will not know much of the freedoms we have enjoyed in our lifetime, and eventually this nation will be completely absorbed into a world community. We must fight for right, but we also must know what is right. Know history, read and pray for God to help us as individuals to make right choices in electing our leaders, and in personal repentance for looking the other way for so long.
Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all.
What drives you more than anything else? With technology today, and through the use of the internet, you have access to nearly data on nearly any topic under the sun. There is little need for newspapers, magazines, bookstores, and libraries. You can make money from home and with just a few clicks, see videos and browse through photos of your favorite stars, fill hours with gaming, and the possibilities are endless of what you may discover, with this information explosion. No more need for bookshelves in your home, stacks of useless old newspapers, mags will never pile up in your home. I find this terrifying!
I may be alone in this line of thinking, and I do not feel this way because I authored a book. My concern is just that you and I will not have newspapers for the next BSA paper drive either. But I am concerned that with all of the knowledge available, we have become dumb and dumber, and are developing new sicknesses, and sloth is not just a person to lazy to take a breath.
I have noticed that I have changed dramatically since I started blogging on a regular basis. Prior to being a regular blogger, I was quite active physically, seldom missed a recovery meeting, and though I am not totally drawn to the net to find my info to blog with, and still love books, I have seen many of my good habits flushed down the toilet, so to speak. As you get older, it becomes more difficult to create good habits. My prayer life has suffered, too busy focusing on writing the post, then checking the stats to see how many people were viewing the post. When those numbers grew, then the element of pride became an issue. No more, I have nothing to be proud of, it is all God's grace. I developed dis-grace. What about those things I believe? They became a victim of my drive to please the readers and develop my following. I neglected the important to build the unneccessary.
"Do you not know that whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?" Rom. 6:16
I say I believe God hears and answers, but how much do I believe that? Do I really want to become legalistic, or puritanical in my personal tenets, and exist in religious morbidity? No. I do, however, want to practice what I say I believe by observing prayer, time with God, and in reading the Word of Life, and serving others. Others include those around me. If my nose is in the computer, I may not see my wife is troubled and needs to talk. If I am rapt in research to see how my stats look in Google, I'm oblivious to the needs of others. I can become a slave to these needless things.
This dumbing-down effect is not that the info we get fom the net is bad. It is more a numb-down of priorities importance. Not going to a library because of having a universe of data right in my laptop is not a terrible thing, but the laziness can enslave me, enslave us. We can become ill from being indoors, away from sunshine and fresh air, and miss so much of life when we give ourselves to gaming and non-stop surfing web pages. There is a new sickness effecting adolescent and early teens called "nature deficit disorder," where these young people are becoming ill from not being outdoors, and their immune system has not developed antibodies to fight sicknesses the outdoors can cause humans. Really?
I am also concerned that youth today will not be as likely to know how to interact with their peers, and will lose their ability to be creative, when the thing they may have sought to create is buried under the desire to play the newest game, or read what their idol is doing today in their tweet. We must not allow the youth to be mastered by the information super highway...there is a dead end ahead that they will not see.
What I say I believe is evident to all by the action I put into doing and not just saying. I am determined to continue growing in Christ, becoming a slave to righteous living. So I am going to end here, close the laptop, find a meeting to go to, and get busy practicing grace in deed, not just words... one of my beliefs. Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all.
One thing I received honestly in life was the gift of gab. Being of Irish heritage, I can yak endlessly on a topic. An argument can be lost by yours truly, but I come back. I will normally research my point and return with data noted from the time I wasted to prove I'm right. I really am exaggerating this a little, I try to stay clear of arguments. But I do not exaggerate the fact I love to know things, and really like to talk..too much.
But because you all are so gracious taking the time to read my posts, I would like to know, what would you like for me to blog about? Now, I don't mean just anything. If you are a regular reader, you know the topics I normally stick to is recovery from addictions, spirituality, a little politics, a little child rearing and family. I can get into other things but if there is something you particularly have interest in, I will read up and write on, my views with you in mind.
Being a Bible student, and recovering addict, these are what I prefer to write about. If you were interested in divine healing, knowing God's will, or stories of Biblical patriarchs, that's up my alley. I will write on other religions as well, but I do not adhere to their beliefs personally. If you have a question about religion, but you are not religious, bring em' on. If you want to know more about recovering from addictions, codependency, denial, anything of that ilk, that will work. If you want to hear more about politics with the election coming, I can do that.
Leave your requests on the comment page at the bottom, and I will get on the most requested first, and if you leave a question but are not a regular reader, you can leave your email and I will let you know when it posts. I would love to hear from you. You do not need to leave your full name unless you want it posted. Your first name will do. Don't forget to hit submit.
Thanks for reading God bless and keep you all.
Most of life for the most of the people is what we think to be normal. By normal I mean that our days aren't always trouble filled, nor are they always joy-full. We rise to face the day, we work to provide income to live on, we take a shower to not be offensive, we eat to sustain our health, and all of these are necessities. Suddenly, tragedy comes, and life moves far away from the mundane daily routines. Tragedy can come in different ways. The worst is someone close to us passing, none of us want that to happen ever, but it comes.
Then there is that day when our daily rut is jolted with really good news; that loan for your dream home gets approved, you get a promotion on the job, or get the news you're going to be a parent! These are the days we long for. The person you like the least in life becomes a pretty good joe, because you are full of joy, having received good news. You have a great outlook, your job is really a good job, everything sounds good for dinner, even filet of carp.
Tragedies come seldom in life, but those events are indelibly branded in the brain. Joy filled days come with more frequency, but are forgottenmuch easier. Our focus needs to be on that moment of joy, and find the way to accept that having a joy frame of mind is, rather should be our heart's address, where the heart dwells. I am convinced that for me, I should not look to maintain happiness. Happiness is like a bird, and takes flight in the middle of my experiencing it. Joy can remain constant.
He, (God), gets angry once and a while, but across a lifetime there is only love. The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter. Ps. 30:5 MSG
In recovery meetings for alcoholics and drug addicts, so many start living in the light of what they have learned by living sober. They have began to see the rewards of staying clean and sober, working and enjoying their job, getting their credit back into good standing, and amending their pasts. Things get good, they are living in that state of living where joy is at the center. For some unknown reason, they cease doing what brought them to this way of life...and relapse. Some never return from their embarrassment, some are unable to return, they die.
That isn't any different in the church world. A few small compromises, missing a few services, getting too friendly with pleasures that lead to debauchery. And the story remains the same in both examples. We want joy and try to work to achieve it, but when we work for it and it doesn't appear, we give in and give up. We need to be reminded, daily, how to maintain a life of joy.
If I fill my thoughts with the daily news, think about how I'm treated at home and at work, or how I don't have enough money to do things that need done, I'm sunk. I develop a attitude of defeat, I'm sunk. These are not the thoughts a child of The Most High. I need to fill my thinking with the reality not of who I am, but whose I am. I know me. I will finish this post, and go about my day or night, forgetting what I am saying to you. So having this great understanding of self, I am writing some post-its to myself, and sticking them everywhere I look in my home. These are reminders to me of Whose I am, what I have achieved through Christ living in my heart, what God has done for me... and what He is doing tomorrow. I want to live a joyful ife, realizing that tragedy does come, but have the bulk of my remainding years, centered in the freedom of choice, choosing joy.
Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all.
A seven year old boy walked into the room where his dad was sitting reading. The dad noticed the little boy had been crying. Further inspection of his son, he saw that he looked a bit dirty, with a torn shirt.
"What's wrong my son?"
The little boy replied,"The neighbor kids, hit me and threw me down on the ground for no reason!"
"Aren't those kids older than you?" the dad questioned.
"Yes daddy, and bigger too!" the boy said.
"Well let's go teach them a lesson they'll never forget!" dad thundered.
The son was excited, his dad could beat anyone, he was going to lay it on these bullies. As they rushed to these boys, the dad said, "Are you the ones who roughed up my son?"
The boys were so shocked they could say nothing, but feared the worse. Dad said to them, "I know you are the ones, my son said you were. I am going to teach you boys a lesson you'll never forget, we FORGIVE you." And with that, the father took his son by the hand, and strolled away.
The son, and his bullying playmates didn't know that moment how to react, but that day, they learned a lesson, one they never forgot.
In 2 Corinthians, the apostle Paul gave instructions to the Corinthian church on the ritual of taking "communion," or the "Lord's Table, or Supper." By taking bread and drinking the wine, or as many do, the juice, we remember the broken body of Jesus, and His shed blood at the cross. As a child, most of the protestant faith I grew up in, did this ritual once each year at Easter. With that as a annual practice, that's about how often I gave thought to Christ's sacrifice. I had no teaching regarding this sacred ritual, and I regret that. Paul let the believer know how important it is, and how we should prepare ourselves to perform communion with the body of believers.
Paul gave the people the instructions in chapter 11, vs. 23-26, then said these words:
Therefore, whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner willbe guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. vs. 27-31
What is Paul saying? Get rid of grudges and resentments, forgive those who harm you for any reason, or do not partake of communion. If that anger, or hatred is more important to you than your relationship to Jesus, keep the resentments. But if Christ means everything, bury those old feelings at the foot of the cross where they belong, and allow His salvation to cleanse you in every way. Don't tell the Lord how much you care for the lost, how you love Him, don't put your "holy" face on while taking communion, and act the saint.
Be aware that Paul's warnings are written in the same book that offers you salvation. You nor I get to pick and choose which parts we believe, and which we don't. Holding a grudge against another is not discerning Christ blood and body, and there is recompense that is serious. Be forgiving, realize that the person who offended you, offended God, so you need to let it go no matter what the sin is against you.
Okay, I am aware that many of us struggle to forgive and let go. Be willing to forgive, ask God to help you do so. In AA's Big Book, resentments are the number one offender of the person heading toward relapse, and for the one that crosses the line from social drinking to alcoholism. Freed from anger, and resentments, the recovering can grow as they heal.
It is important to be forgiving for another reason...your children. They will become like you as they mature, they have your gene pool to swim in. Being free of resentments and grudges, will give them a reason to do the same. Be like the little boys dad in the story, teach them a lesson they will never forget...forgive them! I have to go...I have some people I need to forgive.
Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all. I wonder what you think about this?
I listened to a radio minister talking about another minister's message, and I can honestly say, please stop. Not everyone holds my thoughts or beliefs, nor do I expect them to. I feel it is not necessary to run another down, especially for anyone in ministry to be so egocentric that they feel they have the whole counsel of God. This doesn't win the lost, it drives them to other beliefs. You may stand in a pulpit and share your anointing with the world, but know what spirit you are of.
The minister was thoughtful enough to not mention the person's name he was judging, but he gave a good enough description that anyone would guess his name. The problem was that the person he spoke of didn't mention sin when he preached. He explained he really didn't have a need to, the people already know they are sinners. They need to know God isn't mad at them, and wants them in his family. I agree...with both sides. They really know they are sinners, we can point that out, nothing is wrong with that. I also feel that the minister has a heart of love for people and he ministers as God has led him to do so.
The radio minister did the TV minister irreparable harm. There are people who now believe he is of the devil, although his simple ministry has led many to Christ. In fact, as a guess, more than the accusing minister. Keep your hands to yourself children...and your tongues too.
"With it, (the tongue), we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not be so." James 3:9-10
..."Do not touch my annointed ones, and do my prophets no harm." 1Chron. 16:22
Yeah but, you know we must point out the man's sin or he will not know he is a sinner and may never repent! Really? So you and I must convict, is that it? We are not the Holy Spirit, though some think themselves worthy of deity. Just stay in your ministry, don't judge another's calling, or you will be held in judgment from all.
In the eighties, we saw the downfall of the PTL organization, that sent its founder to prison. The scandal was the devil's hey-day as he triumphed over the church world and many believers stumbled. Many believers had heart-felt sorrow for the Bakker's and wrapped them in love and forgiveness. One man didn't. He was probably the most powerful preacher of the time, people literally talked of him in awe. He accepted their worship, condemned the others, and was brought down quickly himself. Prior to that event however, he weekly slaughtered Catholics, and nominal churches for their coldness in the worship of God. They didn't do like he did.
God doesn't share His glory with man. God doesn't like his children be talked about. Just preach Jesus. And do yourself a favor. When you hear something you disagree with from a minister, change the channel. Anyone who reads the Bible knows to run the other way from a minister who always talks about money. Paul warns of such in Timothy, and Peter warns in his epistles. But even be wary of speaking evil against them...watch something else on the tube, better yet, go to bed, I am.
Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all.
Everyone seems to know that prolonged use of drugs and alcohol can have deadly consequences. That is, everyone but the one using. In their minds they are timeless, unique, special. Many people are sent to recovery meetings as a result of a court order. It may be that this is their first legal consequence, or it may be that the judge has sent them in regularly from their continued violations. Too often they come thinking they just had too many, I'm not an alcoholic/addict like these people in the meetings, they think. It is this mentality, and lack of honesty from friends and family, that leads this type to the next level of trouble...you have my word on that.
Others come in with that identical line of thought, thinking that AA will teach them how to drink responsibly, but almost immediately, they see they have a problem. These listen and learn that their lives are unmanageable, alcohol and/or drugs has them beaten, they must find the way out. In time, anyone, actually everyone who is serious about getting free from the chains of addictions, will be liberated...you have my word. You also have this promise in AA's Big Book:
"And we have ceased fighting anything or anyone-even alcohol. By this time sanity will have returned...seldom interested in liquor...we're not fighting it, neither are we avoiding temptation...the problem has been removed...It no longer exists for us...we are neither cocky nor are we afraid. That is how we react as long as we keep in fit spiritual condition." The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, pg 84-85 ( read the full paragragh at AA.com)
The last words of the paragraph, "fit spiritual condition," is obscure to people who do not practice any sort of prayer, or have no religious foundation. This has become more common in our world today. This spirirtual conditioning, is promised in The Bigger Book...The Bible. Thousands of promises are found throughout its pages. Every word is on the money, and these promises are not always in our favor. We love to focus our attention toward those promises of blessings, the rewards of the righteous, but not the promise of the recompense of obstinance and disobedience. (people despise the word obedience...wonder why?) You don't need my word on this...you have God's Word on it.
People come to God as they do to recovery meetings very often. They come as an order from their spouse, or from hearing bad news from their Dr, or from feeling its important to take your children to church. That's fine, hopefully where they go to find God, and His Word is given in truth. Often things improve in their life and they find fault until the spouse says for them to stay home. Others get the message and fall headlong in love with Christ. For these, a promise is waiting they should all know. This promise is key to understanding that all of God's promises are infallible...if you take them in faith.
...for You have magnified Your Word above ALL Your Name." Ps. 138:2
According to scripture, the Name(s) of God were so sacred to the Hebrews that they would never speak it directly. They would speak God's Name in other ways, referring to Him as the Almighty, Shepherd, our Banner, our Healer, etc. God says that He has elevated His Word above His Name in the passage,(read the whole chapter, this is in context of the chapter), meaning, every word, every promise is true.
AA/NA really works if you work what it says. Your life improves when you apply the steps to recovery. God's Word works without our help, but only works for us when we place our faith in it. What are you facing? Are you waiting to hear news from tests, have children that are living outside of God's grace, are buried in a mountain of debt? Look to God, trust that His Name is above all others. Sickness, disease, debt, depression are all names. His Name is above every name...His Word is above His name. You have His Word on it!
Thanks for reading, God bless and keep you all.
I have views about life based on my upbringing that does not agree with every person in this country. I know that being a baby boomer, trying to understand subsequent generations, is not only difficult, but outright frustrating. It is, of course, my generations fault. The baby boomers are in charge of the government, making decisions as to what is acceptable and what isn't. You see, I am not allowed to believe what I believe or say what I think any longer. Neither are you. Ask Dan Cathy. He says what is his personal view, and is now being led down the "mile," to be executed. If you oppose the liberal left, you are something less than human. If you say your personal views are based on biblical principle, you are less than excrement.
They have the media, the stars, the majority of major colleges, and a large portion of the government bodies in their corner. This isn't a surprise to you is it? If you believe in tradition marriage, pro-life, smaller government say, individual responsibility, Creationism, a young Earth, if you have moral values and believe John 3:16, if you believe Christ is the only way to heaven, you have no possibility of going anywhere famously, if they have their say. We are stuck in a hole.
Why can't you and I believe what we choose to be without being called intolerant? These people cannot tolerate that. If you oppose them, watch out. You will see intolerance in action. They are allowed to believe as they please because they are intelligent, they understand things in a modern way, not from ancient documents. They know what's best for you and I. The government will take care of us. They are intelligent enough to ignore history. Their way has been attempted in history, more than once and the results.....
The men and women who have died for this country and our flag are despised by those intent on tearing us away from what we feel and think to be right. "God and country" is the old slogan, but that is being replaced with global community, total acceptance with all people, tolerate all religions, except Christianity. Are they for real? The first ones eliminated by the religions they want to tolerate are they themselves.
Don't tell me or anyone else you are a free thinker and you have risen above the thoughts of the ignorant religious. You are enslaved yourself by man's wisdom that ultimately eliminates hope, faith, and making a difference in the lives of others. If you despise the name Jesus, hate His followers, and wish there was no such religious belief, ask yourself, what's your motivation?
We all can disagree without being disagreeable, you can stop going to Chic-fil-a, refuse to celebrate CHRISTmas, or RESURRECTION day, that's okay. You can hate God, He still loves you. He will inspire people to pray for you when you ask Him if He exists. He doesn't despise you no matter how you have bashed Him. But His children defend His reality. They will disagee with anyone trying to dishonor Him, and right now that is the Dan Cathy kickers. Let people think the way they think, show concern for suffering people, and bash hunger and homelessness, not people.
And Christians, keep in mind that your support of the "stars" and the media provides their cause with funds to keep their bashing Jesus going. Adolf Hitler imprisoned the Jews of Germany, siezed their assets and money which funded a third of the war effort of the Third Reich. Your money is used to pay them to lobby against those things that you strongly believe to be wrong, and displeasing to God. Think about this when you go to the movies, buy products, and attend events. Ask God to help you make good choices.
