This entire year has been a year of birth...and of death. We have lost some dear friends and family members this year. Those individuals will never be forgotten and we continue to pray that God will fill the void in their hearts from their loss, and bring them peace. We welcomed Greyson Joseph into the world, and made Bayleigh and John proud new parents. And there have been many good things that have come throughout the year to fill us with joy. God is truly good...all of the time.
This day is celebrated in memory of the Christ-child's birth. For the believer and follower of Christ, His coming causes us to reflect on His birth and giving His all, so we can have a new birth into eternal life through our belief in Him. This familiar passage tells the whole story:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son,
that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting
life." John 3:16 (NKJV)
In Christ, we don't see with the eyes of our bodies, but the eyes of our spirit. By faith we know this passage to be reality, no doubt remains, we're in Him...forever! We are a newborn, not of the flesh, we're born of the Spirit.
I am grateful for God's gift, He gave his best. Today, when all of the presents are opened, the kids are playing with their toys, and the house returns to normal. Take a moment to think of those who've lost family members and loved ones. Think about those who had no one to celebrate this holiday with. Think about the elderly couple, unable to get out and attend services, and think about the homeless, the foster child, the skid-row alcoholic, the drug addict, and the hungry. Pray for these broken, lost, and friendless. Ask God if there is anything you can do for anyone He brings to mind. Remember He gave His best.
Then take a minute, reflect on all you have. Not just material things, but also those wonderful gifts of sight, hearing, sanity. Think of your healthy children, the warm room you're setting in, and food on your table. Thank God, tell Him you're grateful for all of those things both tangible, and intangible. Be like the newborn baby in your heart and mind today, innocent, clean, and hungry to do the things that please Him.
Be Jesus to someone else today.
And now, the Lord bless and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine on you, and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift His countenance upon you, and give you peace. In all you do today, and everyday, think on His goodness. Thanks for reading, Keith.
